UNITED - THE AFTERMATH

All The Quotes That Matter From The
Barcelona And Manchester Celebrations
~
OLE GUNNAR SOLKSJAER
"We didn't leave the ground until nearly 1.30 am. By the time we got to the hotel in the centre of Barcelona it must have been about 2.15 am. En route we were greeted at every corner, down every street. It was one big street party all the way to the place. But the fans had a right, they had as much right as us to enjoy the moment. Of course we had a few drinks, we let our hair down a little. Our partners were already at the hotel and they shared the excitement of the fans."

DAVID BECKHAM
"It was a great party, plenty of food, plenty of entertainment and lots of soft drinks. But even then it hadn't quite sunk in that we had won the European Cup. Everybody was on a high, but under the circumstances, looking back, it's difficult to describe what happened to us out on the pitch."

RYAN GIGGS
"I've never seen anything like it in my life. It must have taken nearly two hours to do six miles and I enjoyed every minute of it. Sometimes you can get too wrapped up in your own success, but our success belonged to everyone, particularly to the fans, and that was never going to happen to us. Somebody told us there were a million people on the route, but it seemed like there were loads more. When we reached the indoor arena the place just exploded, the noise was incredible. I've been inside Old Trafford week in, week out, and 55,000 fans couldn't have made more of a noise."

DWIGHT YORKE
"Everything has taken so long to sink in, it's been quite incredible. When we landed at Manchester airport on Thursday night you would have thought we were royalty. You just can't comprehend what we've achieved and what it means to so many people. I've hurt my mouth from smiling, but I feel so great inside, so proud, that I don't care. Aside from the personal ambitions, I've been part of something that has made a difference to so many other people's lives. The reception, the tour round Manchester. As far as I'm concerned it could have gone on all week."

PETER SCHMEICHEL
"Everything seemed perfect. I wanted to go out on this incredible high and aside from the match, it was just nice to be able to let ourselves go after a very hard, demanding and successful season. Of course we enjoyed ourselves. After the game everything was one big party. But we're all kids, we're like the fans. We sang terrace songs, we laughed at one another and of course, we were pretty tired by the time we got on the plane to leave for home. Thursday sort of lingered. The party just didn't stop and it wasn't going to stop. But these things don't happen that often, it was a once in a lifetime achievement. I don't think anyone would begrudge us enjoying ourselves but we were certainly running on reserve. I'm just pleased for the fans and everybody at Manchester United. We have proved and proved beyond any doubt that we deserve all the success we have got. We earned it and we have a right to feel proud for ourselves and everyone else."
